THE MODERN QUILT GROUP was chosen to exhibit at the Festival of Quilts in August 2017
And at West Country Quilt Show in September 2017

The theme of our exhibit was inspired by the music of Manchester, 'Cottonopolis', centre of the cotton weaving industry for so many years. We were aiming to get as many of our members involved as possible, in small group projects, larger single challenges and some even larger themed quilts. All organised, inspired, and pushed along by Kate Percival, whom we thank

A record (A side and B side, not usually from the same artist) was issued to each member who requested one. Inspired by any part of these (title, idea, perhaps even the Actual Song) the resulting quilts are diverse and delightful, and
Are all HERE for your delectation

12 x 12 inch CHARM SQUARE
"improvisation" challenge

At the Festival of Quilts in 2016 every Modern Group Member who called in on us at the Group stand was given a free members pack which included small four charm squares. The challenge was to use as much of the fabric in those squares as you could, incorporating it into a 12" x 12" block, with thin edge binding, 4" hanging sleeve on the back.
The design of the block was entirely up to you, just include as much of those four squares as you could...the idea was to give all the blocks a commonality and to make us all really search for the fabrics! Rather like a jazz improvisation on a tune.
All now HERE to see...

All the fun of the Set-up HERE

Last but not the least least, the Session Musician wall, with "Syncopations" by Alicia Merrett, and two long quilts by Heather Hasthorpe and Maria Spiller
